Figli dell’isola che sono cresciuti nelle attività ristorative familiari, dopo un viaggio fatto ad Ibiza hanno concepito l’idea e la volontà di mettersi in proprio, iniziando così una grande amicizia, facendo leva sugli stessi obiettivi, hanno concretizzato l’apertura a settembre di un locale nuovo per Capri, la loro filosofia si materializza in Hangout, pub e cocktail bar a pochi metri della piazzetta, a ridosso delle mura antiche della Chiesa, in via Oratorio. Marco Soverini classe 1989 e Simone Aversa classe 1991 insieme gestiscono l’attività.
Marco ha acquisito la passione per la ristorazione lavorando con gli zii, Franco e Gianni, al ristorante Villa Verde, senza perdere mai di vista l’obiettivo di aprire un giorno un locale tutto suo. Simone invece la prima cotta per la ristorazione l’ha assaporata come cliente e poi lavorando nel ristorante dei genitori a Marina Grande, Lo Smeraldo.
“Hangout significa punto di ritrovo – dice Marco – il nome stesso riassume il nostro obiettivo, cioè quello di essere appunto un ritrovo sull’isola di giovani e meno giovani, aperto tutto l’anno, dove il bambino può deliziarsi con un panino mentre un adulto può assaggiare specialità diverse e magari più elaborate, la filosofia è mangiare e bere bene stando insieme”.
Simone dice “Forti del nostro vissuto, dove, per trovare qualcosa di diverso, specialmente d’inverno quando l’isola spegne i suoi riflettori, viaggiamo verso altre mete, l’Hangout vuole essere presente per accogliere le persone che invece scelgono di restare a Capri e fargli trascorrere momenti piacevoli, in armonia con altre persone”.
A quasi un anno dall’apertura quali sono le vostre impressioni?
“Sentirsi arrivati sarebbe un errore – dice Marco Soverini – Bisogna aggiornarsi continuamente e proporre novità per non stancare il pubblico, il mondo della ristorazione corre e non ci si può fermare, bisogna stare al passo. Sicuramente un locale come quello che abbiamo creato mancava, non esisteva una tipologia simile”.
“In Italia in generale il mondo della pubblic house è un po’ in ritardo rispetto all’Europa e al resto del mondo – continua Simone Aversa – Capri viaggiava lentamente anche rispetto a quello che era il concetto italiano, perché, il pub, veniva visto un luogo frequentato da bambini. Invece non è il posto dei bambini ma è anche per i bambini, e soprattutto per tutte le fasce d’età. Si concentra su una specialità che sono i panini, in genere a base di carne e farciti con vere gustosità, ma non è solo quello, anzi è un mondo vasto e c’è solo da scoprire, per niente diverso da qualsiasi ristorante. C’è una continua ricerca di alimenti come di abbinamenti. Uno stimolo continuo non solo per il mangiare ma anche per il bere, ed infatti ci siamo affacciati anche alle birre artigianali, a Capri un mondo quasi sconosciuto per tanti, noi siamo pronti con la nuova carta delle birre artigianali creata con il mastro birraio bier sommelier d’Italia Gilberto Acciaio, che ha firmato la carta della birra. Non siamo presuntuosi da dire che abbiamo creato un format vincente, ma crediamo che siamo sulla strada giusta puntando sempre sulla qualità, la diversità dei prodotti e l’eccellenza, per cui crediamo di continuare in questa direzione”.
Marco e Simone stanno organizzando per il prossimo inverno, un progetto per elevare la cultura della birra sull’isola, un corso per sommelier, puntando per lo più a quelle artigianali. Capri rimane un posto stabile dove rimanere e costruire, una mamma con cui sono cresciuti che amano e rispettano, contribuendo con il loro locale a mantenerla viva anche nei momenti di solitudine, in inverno, creando aggregazione e simpatici momenti culinari.
“Capri è un’isola meravigliosa, adoro Marina Piccola, ho tanti ricordi legati all’infanzia e a mia nonna – racconta Marco – il posto che porto nel mio cuore in assoluto”.
“Vivere sull’isola per noi giovani è sempre stato un punto di domanda: partire o rimanere? – Racconta Simone – Ero tra quelli in dubbio se partire o rimanere, vedevo le mie prospettive di crescita l’imitate rispetto ai miei obiettivi, però poi con gli anni, maturando capisci la verità su alcune frasi che si leggono e cioè: per scoprire il mondo o inizi con una valigia per girarlo o ti siedi in piazza e il mondo passa da te, ed è una grande verità. A volte siamo i primi a non apprezzare il posto dove si abita, poi quando inizi a viaggiare scopri la realtà che esistono pochissimi posti che danno la possibilità sia di crescita personale che professionale e le varie visioni, per cui se a Capri viene tutto il mondo ad ammirarla e contemplarla, noi abbiamo l’obbligo di custodirla ed elevarla. Per cui la mia visione di vivere l’isola è totalmente cambiata, creare un posto non solo per i turisti ma soprattutto per i capresi che ci abitano. Se devo citare un posto a cui sono più legato, dico, piazzetta delle noci e arco naturale, quelli che battevo maggiormente da bambino, in compagnia dei miei nonni o degli amici”.
Soci, amici e tifosi. Sono sempre in sintonia nelle scelte da fare, ma mentre Marco è tifoso del Napoli, Simone per la Juventus, l’unico punto dove la visione è diversa e la sana competizione si fa sentire, durante le partite di calcio c’è da divertirsi.
“Sulle scelte professionali abbiamo obiettivi comuni, ci troviamo in accordo e siamo uniti, non possiamo dire la stessa cosa sulla fede calcistica che purtroppo ci divide. Io fortunatamente sono napoletano – racconta Marco sorridendo – Simone purtroppo è juventino per cui soprattutto quando ci sono le partite ci becchiamo in continuo, dividiamo le due salette, e mentre i tifosi del Napoli si siedono nel mio reparto, gli avversari si accomodano dal lato di Simone. L’unico momento in cui manteniamo una distanza, durante il match più lontano sta e meglio è!”.
Secondo Simone: “Un punto di disaccordo ci deve essere, la completa unione non va mai bene in nulla, il calcio ci dà questa opportunità di confrontarci in una sana rivalità, mi dispiace per Marco, da dieci anni a questa parte la sorte pende dal mio lato e gli tocca vedermi festeggiare continuamente. Sono momenti divertenti dove troviamo comunque il modo di confrontarci nonostante tutto”.
Leaving or staying? Hangout!
Children of the island, grown up up in the family restaurant business, after a trip to Ibiza they conceived the idea and the will to open their own business, thus establishing a great friendship, leveraging on their shared goals, they finalized the opening, in September, of a brand new club in Capri, their philosophy is materialized in Hangout, pub and cocktail bar just a few meters from the piazzetta, near the ancient Church walls, in via Oratiorio. Marco Soverini, class of 1989, and Simone Aversa, class of 1991, manage the business together.
Marco discovered his passion for the restaurant business while working with his uncles, Franco and Gianni, at the restaurant Villa Verde, without ever losing sight of the dream of opening, one day, a business of his own. Simone, instead, tasted his first infatuation for the business first as a client and then working in his parents’ restaurant, in Marina Grande, Lo Smeraldo.
“Hangout means meeting place – Marco tells us – the name itself summarizes our goal, that is, being indeed a meeting place on the island for the young and less young people, open all year round, where children can enjoy a delicious sandwich, while the adults can taste different, perhaps more elaborate specialties, our philosophy is eating and drinking well, together”.
Simone says “Drawing on our past experiences, where, in order to find something different, especially in winter when the island shuts down its spotlights, we had to move to other places, Hangout wants to be here to welcome all those people who, instead, choose to stay in Capri, and make them have a great time, in harmony with other people”.
Almost a year after the opening, what are your impressions?
“Thinking we have reached our goal would be a mistake – tells us Marco Soverini – We must constantly improve and offer new proposals to keep the audience engaged, the restaurant world is restless and you cannot stop, you must be up-to-date. Surely, a club such as ours was missing, there was nothing similar before”.
“In Italy, the public house world is a little behind compared to Europe and the rest of the world – continues Simone Aversa – Capri was running late even compared to the Italian standards, because the pub was seen a place for children. On the contrary, it is not for children, it is also for children, and above all for all age groups. It focuses on a specialty, sandwiches, generally meat-based and filled with true delicacies, yet it is not only that; on the contrary, it is a very wide world to discover, no different from any other restaurant. There is a non-stop research of ingredients and combinations. A continuous stimulus not only for foods but for drinks as well, and indeed we have also expanded to artisanal beers, an almost unknown world for many people in Capri, we are ready with our new artisanal beers menu created with the brew master, bier sommelier of Italy Gilberto Acciaio, who signed the beer menu. We are not so presumptuous to say that we have created a winning format, but we believe that we are on the right path always focusing on the quality, variety and excellence of the products, so we will continue following this trend”.
Marco and Simone are planning, for next winter, a project aimed at elevating the beer culture in the island, a sommelier course, mainly focused on artisanal beers. Capri remains a stable place where to stay and build, a mother they grew up with who they love and respect, contributing, with their club, in keeping it lively even during the solitary winter months, creating a meeting hub and amusing culinary moments.
“Capri is a wonderful island, I love Marina Piccola, I have many childhood memories with my grandparents – Marco says – it is the place I absolutely keep close to my heart”.
“Living on the island, for us young people has always been a question mark: leaving or staying? – Simone tells us – I was among the ones who doubted whether to leave or stay, I saw my growing opportunities to be limited compared to my goals, however, with the years, growing up you understand the truth behind some expressions you read, and that is: if you want to discover the world you either begin with a suitcase and explore it or you sit down in the middle of the square and the world walks by, and that is an important truth. Sometimes we are the first to not properly appreciate the place we live in, then, when you begin travelling you discover that there are very few places that give you the possibility for a personal and professional growth, so if the whole world comes to Capri to admire and contemplate it, we have the duty to safeguard and elevate it. Therefore, my vision of living the island has totally changed, I want to create a place not only for the tourists, but especially for the locals. If I must mention a place I am particularly attached to, I say, Piazzetta delle Noci and the Natural Arc, the places I used to visit the most when I was a child, together with my grandparents or my friends”.
Business partners, friends and football enthusiasts. They always agree on the decisions to make, yet while Marco is a Napoli supporter, Simone roots for Juventus, the only point where their visions diverge, and the healthy competition is felt, during the football matches there is fun to be had.
“We have shared goals regarding business decisions, we agree and are united, however we cannot say the same thing regarding our football faith that, unfortunately, divides us. Luckily, I am a Napoli supporter – Marco tells us with a smile – Simone is unfortunately a Juventus supporter, so when a match is on we constantly argue, we split between the two halls, and while the Napoli supporters sit by my side, the opponents go to Simone’s side. The only moment where we keep a distance, during the match the farther we are from each other, the better!’
According to Simone: “There should always be something to disagree on, a total agreement is never good in anything, football gives us this possibility for confrontation with an health rivalry, I am very sorry for Marco, for ten years luck has been by my side and he has to watch me celebrate every time. Those are amusing moments where, after all, we always find an opportunity for discussion”.
